The 2018 South American Games Begin
The 13-day South American games began in Cochabamba, Bolivia on Saturday as 4,000 athletes from across the continent arrived to compete in cycling, soccer, wrestling, swimming and gymnastics events.

Per tradition, the winners will be offered a small memento of this year's mascots: the ukumari bear and the jaguar, both endangered species from the Andean region.

The event has been a yearly tradition on the continent since 1974 and is sometimes referred to as the Odesur Games, an abbreviation of the Suramericana Sports Organization.

The 374 sporting events include skiing, futsal, golf, hockey, rugby, vasca ball, taekwondo, tennis, archery, sailing, volleyball, and horse riding among others.
