"I always wanted to bring a medal back home for my mom. I do everything for her, so I am so happy I can take her the bronze,” said Richards.

Jereem Richards, aka Jereem the Dream, took home bronze in the men's 200 meters final at London's 2017 World Championships in Athletics on Thursday.

“It was one of the best feelings ever. I'm hoping it's not a dream,” he said

The 23-year old Trinidad and Tobago debutant sprinter, coming off the bends, was certainly not tipped as one of the top finishers, according to the Trinidad Daily Express. However, Jereem the Dream, ever so true to his monicker, kicked on the afterburners, propelling him straight into the medal ceremony.

“I had a bad start,” Richards confessed to the Express. He added that he “stumbled a little bit, but I tried not to let it affect me. I still tried to stay relaxed. Going into the straight, I glanced up and saw I was fourth or fifth. It was time to go.”

Richard extended his torso at the finish line to secure his bronze medal, missing silver by only a narrow margin.

In fact, only one-thousandth of a second separated silver medalist, South African Wayde van Niekerk, and Richards. Both were timed at 20.11 seconds.

Turkey's Ramil Guliyev took home the gold medal with a sprint time of 20.09.

However, Richards could hardly contain the joy of bringing a medal back to Trinidad, especially for his mother, Yvette Wilson.

“This means a lot to me. I always wanted to bring a medal back home for my mom. I do everything for her, so I am so happy I can take her the bronze,” he said.
