The agency said the attack took place in al-Harra. The Syrian military has said there are a number of casualties as a result of a military position being hit.

“No member of the U.S.-led coalition carried out strikes near Albu Kamal,” Major Josh Jacques, a U.S. Central Command spokesman, told Reuters, denying the claim.

The U.S.-led coalition is allegedly supporting an alliance of Syrian Arab and Kurdish militia fighting the Islamic State in the northeastern state. U.S. forces are also reportedly based in Tanf, southwest of Albu Kamal, near the Iraqi and Jordanian borders.

Last week, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said he regarded the United States as an occupying power and that the position of Syria was to “support any act of resistance, whether against terrorists or against occupying forces, regardless of their nationality.”
