Speaking to the crowd, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza said it was important for people from the United States and Venezuela to stand together.

“This is a community of resistance,” he said. “We know that the people of the United States will be crucial to ending U.S. imperialism … We have to work together.”

Arreaza criticized U.S. aggression against Venezuela and promised Venezuela would continue to defend its sovereignty.

“We are not going to bow down to any imperialist power,” he said. “They accuse us of being a dictatorship but they are the dictatorship.”

Arreaza paid tribute to the people who had died during violent opposition protesters and called for peace.

The meeting comes ahead of Arreaza's speech at the United Nations on Saturday.
