Russia Presents Cuban Film Week

Russia has inaugurated its second annual Cuban Film Week with the presence of filmmakers and artists from both countries, where five Cuban films will be presented from Sept. 14-18.

The movie event aims to bring Russians closer to the Cuban contemporary film industry, with movies screening in their original versions with subtitles in Russian.

The five films to be shown, from different genres, produced between 2015 and 2016, will be "Cafe amargo" by Rigoberto Jimenez; "Ya no es antes" by Lester Hamlet; "Ultimos días en La Habana" by Fernando Perez; "Bailar con Margot" by Arturo Santana; and "Cuba Libre" by Jorge Luis Sanchez.

The week-long event will be held in the Illusion Cinema Theater in Moscow and is organized by the Kinofest Production Center, the Culture Ministry of Russia, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry and the Cuban embassy in Moscow.

The movies to be shown include the most recent Cuban films premiered on the island for the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in its 37th and 38th editions.

"Ultimos días en La Habana" presents the issue of migration in Cuba, and "Bailando con Margot" is a police drama set on the eve of the Cuban Revolution.

The inaugural session will show the movie "Cuba Libre," that presents Cuba amid the 1898 war with Spain and the U.S. in 1898.

Roberto Smith de Castro head of ICAIC leads the Cuban delegation, which is joined by some of the actors and directors from the island nation.
