Codedi chief Abraham Ramírez Vázquez speculated that the death of Hernández González could be related to an ongoing dispute that the owner of the hotel is having with others who have laid claim to the property.

The body of missing Salchi regional coordinator for social organization Committee for the Defense of Indigenous Rights (Codedi), Abraham Hernández González, has been found in Cuatunalco.

Members of Codedi had reported the social leader had been kidnapped from a Pochutla district hotel at about 11:00 am where he worked as a manager, by armed individuals dressed in military fatigue, and stuffed in a vehicle which then fled the scene.

“A group of armed people picked up our coordinator in Pochutla, Abraham Hernández González, 42; they were all covered in their faces and dressed as soldiers,” said Abraham Ramírez, spokesperson for the Codedi in Oaxaca.

According to reports, Hernández González' body displayed torture marks and other wounds, some suspected to be from a firearm.

Ramírez said Hernández González is the third person to be abducted and killed from Sierra Sur. One victim, the Codedi spokesperson says, was a 17-year-old who was taken last February.

“First they kill three comrades who sail them in front of the Huatulco airport, from this fact everything is impunity, and now they attack our comrade from Pochutla; We demand that the Oaxaca Attorney General's Office respond to our demands and find those responsible.”

Ramírez made an appeal, for help, to various organizations.

“We are going to take to the streets to demand justice and we are going to demonstrate to demand that the state government apply the rule of law.”

Codedi chief Abraham Ramírez Vázquez speculated that the death of Hernández González could be related to an ongoing dispute that the owner of the hotel is having with others who have laid claim to the property.
