The IHRC denounced U.S. president Donald Trump’s decision to eliminate TPS, calling it a serious dilemma stating that massive deportations could potentially affect international groups.

Families formerly protected by the program have until September 2019 to leave the U.S., the international group demanded an alternative resolution to the program's termination in defense of the thousands of program recipients.

“The deportation of those beneficiaries of the TPS could put the United State’s international human rights obligations at risk,” the organization said.

The international group also recommended the US review its immigration policies and review the closure of legal offices which could provide migration advise and possible solutions for long-term TPS participants.

"The Commission observes that the majority of the TPS beneficiaries have lived the United States for decades and have formed family, social, and economic connections over the extended time, a large number of these having arrived before the age of 16,” the statement said.

The IACHR also highlighted that some 270,000 American children "would be affected" by the loss of the migratory status of their fathers and mothers.

“The IHRC urges the United States to regularize the migration situation for the TPS beneficiaries and other migrant persons who have stayed in the country for an extended amount of time and the lack of serious solutions for permanent migratory status,” the group said.
