France: Part Of World Cup Prize Will Finance Women's League

Prize money won by France in Juy's Men's FIFA World Cup will partly finance French female professional teams, it has been announced.

The Professional Football League (LFP) said Wednesday that part of the money given by the French Football Federation (FFF) will be reserved for the "12 clubs of the D1 feminine league."

The LFP said it had "decided unanimously to award the 12 women's D1 clubs the portion of the benefit of the 2018 World Cup that the FFF gives to the LFP at the end of this edition marked by the success of the Blues," and that it would benefit "the development of high-level feminine football."

Each of the teams would receive around 100,000 euros, while the clubs have a budget of up to a million euros, according to Le Monde.

"For the first time, the LFP will directly assist the 12 women's D1 clubs," said Nathalie Boy de la Tour, president of the LFP.

In July 2019, France will host the next FIFA Women's World Cup. The matches will be played in Paris, Lyon, Nice, Montpellier, Rennes, Le Havre, Valenciennes, Reims and Grenoble.

Boy de la Tour emphasized that "after the tremendous success of our 'Blues' in Russia, the professional clubs and the League will be the first supporters of the 'Bleues.'"
