Luz Yeni Montano was murdered Sunday hours after participating in a march in Tumaco, Nariño in protest of the over 130 community leaders killed in the region this year in Colombia.

"The violence in Tumaco has reached unimaginable levels," said Pablo Leyton, community leader in the capital of Nariño.

Yeni Montano was in her home in Viento Libre when she was attacked by two intruders, Colonel Mauricio Jimenez of the National Police informed local media, adding that an investigation into the murder was underway.

She was involved in a number of community action boards in several neighborhoods as well as religious groups, which assisted displaced communities.

Colombian activists denounced the government’s “negligence” in honoring the terms of the Peace Agreement signed by the administration of Juan Manuel Santos and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia in November 2016.

"We do not have enough security guarantees," Camila Cienfuegos, a former FARC guerrilla said.

In the nation’s rural and agricultural sectors, continued militarized aggressions by paramilitaries and forced eradication of coca farmers has led to the deaths of over 130 social leaders.
