Morales also expressed his “fear and concern” over the U.S. intervening in Syria and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, in an exclusive teleSUR interview.

“We were a country submitted to the empire, and we freed ourselves,” Bolivia's President Evo Morales said in an exclusive interview with teleSUR from New York Wednesday.

As Bolivia began the pro-tempore presidency of the Organization of the American States earlier this month, Morales explained that this opportunity will be the “best space to speak out against the empire.”

“The OAS is the best instrument of imperialism, as Fidel said, it's the U.S. Ministry of Colonies,” he told teleSUR, while “UNASUR respects the vote of the people, the sovereignty of each member state, whether it is a right-wing or a left-wing government. In Venezuela, there is a coup attempt, but the OAS is an instrument for the coup.”

He added, “It looks like (U.S. President Donald) Trump wants to take over the world, but the real leaders are the people,” recalling the constant history of U.S. interference in the domestic affairs of Latin American countries and arguing that the United States was really behind the OAS and Secretary-General Luis Almagro.

He expressed his “fear and concern” over the U.S. intervening in Syria and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

He reiterated his support for Venezuela's government, arguing that what was really at stake was Venezuela's oil reserves, and congratulated Lenin Moreno for winning the elections in Ecuador.

In his opinion, the left will continue leading the countries of the region, he told teleSUR, affirming that in 2019, “the people will win,” referring to the upcoming presidential elections in the Andean country.

About the diplomatic spat with Chile regarding access to the sea, he deplored the situation, saying, “I don't understand the arrogance of some state officials in Chile, I wish we could be working together to fight contraband, etc., but Chile does not accept the idea that Bolivia could grow."
