Posting on his official Twitter account, Morales expressed his concern about the deep-seated racism that exists in the United States.

"Trump declared January as the national month for the Prevention of Slavery and Trafficking in Persons. If he is sincere, he should reverse his racist policy of massive persecution and deportation against migrants and end the labor and sexual exploitation of immigrants in the US," wrote the Bolivian president on Tuesday.

"Today we see with deep concern how racism is spreading in the US."

The socialist Indigenous leader has long spoken out against the ill-treatment of immigrants and refugees.

In July, Morales criticized the increasingly harsh immigration policies of G20 countries, calling for an end to the criminalization of migrants and refugees.

The world does not want "walls against migrants, nor nuclear weapons against life and humanity," Morales wrote at the time.

That same month, the president had launched the World Peoples' Conference for a "world without walls" in Cochabamba, calling for an end to anti-immigrant discrimination and hate around the globe. He also demanded respect for the right of all people to benefit from citizenship status.

The Bolivian leader also took part in the reactivation of a regional fund meant to provide legal advice and financial support to immigrants living in the United States amid growing crackdowns. The fund was launched by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America, known as ALBA.
