On Wednesday, the Syrian Arab Army officially entered the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, placing them less than 60 kilometers from the besieged Deir ez-Zor city.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that the “terrorist project has failed,” and that the international pressure from the West against his country has dwindled as a result of the military victories of Syria against terrorist groups, SANA reported.

The remarks were made on Wednesday during the president's meeting with Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari.

He said that thanks to the combined military efforts of Iran, Syria, and other “friendly countries,” the efforts of terrorist organizations to take over Syrian territory have failed.

Military advances against groups such as the so-called Islamic State group, and the groups formerly known as the al-Nusra Front have led to a shift in attitude toward the government led by Bashar al-Assad from Western powers, Assad said.

The Syrian Arab Army, backed by Iran and Russia have recently made sweeping advances through territory formerly occupied by the Islamic State group, quickly advancing into their last strongholds in the Deir Ezzor region.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Arab Army officially entered the Deir ez-Zor Governorate, placing them less than 60 kilometers from the capital, Deir ez-Zor city. The region's capital has been under siege by Islamic State group forces for nearly three years, and for the first time since the war began the liberation

Syrian government forces have also been working with the Lebanese movement Hezbollah to liberate regions along the Syria-Lebanon border where Islamic State group terrorists currently occupy.

The joint offensives over the past month have been successful, with Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah announcing on Tuesday that “we are before a second victory in Lebanon. Since the beginning of the battle, the Islamic State group wanted a ceasefire but the battle continued on both fronts so the terrorists collapsed and surrendered in the end.”
