Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (AMLO) announced on Tuesday the creation of the National Institute of Indigenous People (INAPI), which for the first time in Mexican history will have delegations throughout the country within the Native communities, structured according to identification and language.

"I am very happy to tell you that we are going to support with sufficient resources, and giving special attention to the Indigenous peoples of Mexico," stated AMLO in a press conference from the transition house in Mexico City.
Indigenous lawyer Adelfo Regino Montes, known for his part on the 1994 Zapatista uprising and his litigations in favor of Indigenous people rights will serve as the head of INAPI. Lopez Obrador highlighted that "132 Indigenous coordinations will be created. All cultures, ethnic groups, will be attended."
The president-elect said his political career as part of pro-Indigenous rights campaigns and struggles and that the return of such entities makes him proud. "All those who work in these care centers will be Indigenous. We will respect traditions, customs, social organization. This is going to help a lot to get millions of Mexicans out of poverty," AMLO stated.
In the same press conference, AMLO presented his pick for Work Subsecretary, Alfredo Rodriguez Marrufo, and Horacio Duarte, as the new Employment Subsecretary, as reported by SinEmbargo, a local media.
AMLO also announced a social investment of over US$8 billion dollars in social programs according to Animal Politico. These are focused on creating jobs for over two million young people, helping people with special needs and the elderly, promoting reforestation, creating the INAPI, among other tasks.
