Reports from the Missing Migrant Project have stated that at least 200 Migrants have died crossing the Mexico-US border this year. The Missing Migrants Project is an organization that traces deaths of migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers, who have gone missing along mixed migration routes around the world.

From January 1st to July 30th of this year 200 undocumented migrants have died in the routes crossing the Mexico-US border. Less than the same period last year when 214 died and less than in 2016 where the number of deceased migrants was 208.
From those dead bodies found, a vast majority, 118, were found in the Texas crossing, mainly north of McAllen, in a large desertic area. From the 200 bodies recovered, 121 were men, ten were women, and one child, while authorities haven't been able to determine the sex of the others due to advance decomposition.
Almost all of the migrants, who died while crossing the border, came from Mexico and Central America, one was from Asia, and another was from South America, three of the bodies' origins couldn't be determined.
During the first seven months of 2018, a total of 2,323 migrants fatalities have been recorded worldwide.
This comes amid a renewed threat of US President Donald Trump of building a wall between the US and Mexico and reinforcing the border security. "I would have no problem doing a shutdown, it's time we had proper border security," said Trump during a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at the White House.
During his presidential campaign, Trump pledged a wall along the border and also said that he would force Mexico to pay for it. Mexico has categorically rejected this proposal, and now Trump needs the Congress to approve $25 billion for the project.
