IN PICTURES: Venezuela sent aid to Dominica after the country was hit by Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 storm.

Dominica has called a state of emergency, imposed a curfew and is calling for the international community's help after Hurricane Maria struck the island.

Food, water, medical supplies, household items and communications equipment are being requested. Dominican officials fear that at least 40 people have died following the unprecedented devastation.
