Hurricane Maria's landfall as a Category 5 storm in the Caribbean nation of Dominica is provoking fear across the region, but nowhere has the terror been more palpable than in the island itself.
The storm has not only destroyed Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit's home after “merciless” winds blew the roof off, but has reportedly devastated the roof of the main Princess Margaret hospital.
Residents of the island took to social media to post their horrified reactions to the storm, their pleas to find loved ones who have been unplugged from the internet, as well as harrowing video and photographs showing homes and public facilities suffering surging floods.
teleSUR takes a look at the ongoing social media reaction to Hurricane Maria, which continues to unfold as the nation of Dominica faces its greatest calamity in living memory.
